nature and science

SCIENCE….i loved science all my life…all kind of science….from simple mechanics to mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology to astronomy.

one of the first modern scientists

many scientists were involved in nuclear research: https://www.world-nuclear.org/information-library/current-and-future-generation/outline-history-of-nuclear-energy.aspx

fission and fusion. a main topic in all major research facilities worldwide. fusion is still a dream, although it would be the perfect kind of energy for our planet. nuclear (fission) reactors of today are also good for our environment. however the risk of using them seems more and more unacceptable to many people. germany, which had the safest reactors and probably the most skilled technical experts, pulled out after a tsunami accident in japan. for many here this action was overdue, especially since another major reactor melted down in tschernobyl, russia some years ago. many people are simply afraid!

but there was another goal in nuclear reseach in the 40ties….the atomic, the nuclear bomb….manhattan project………………….(https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/the-manhattan-project). and the bombs were first used at the end of world war II in horoshima and then nagaski in japan. this was a catastrophy and many, many people died. but polititions saw, how effective this terrible new weapon was and started to build many of them….their main argument was and is to keep others from aggression and maintain peace. countries like china, india, france, the us and more….basically stockpile them for this reason. today there are many agreements to avoid proliferation. also testing is basically forbidden today. not so back the 50ties, when the desert of nevada was used for spectecular explosions, which could be observed from the sunset strip in las vegas

2008: i served as i director on the sunpower board in san jose, california. the air force base nellis was one of our biggest customers. we had built there a huge solar field, enough to cover the whole energy demand of the base. The Nellis work force of about 9,500 military and civilians makes it one of the largest single employers in Southern Nevada. The total military population numbers more than 40,000, including family members and military retirees in the area.

gps steered solar panels in nellis

nellis, hoover dam and las vegas are pretty close together. so i visited all three places.

in las vegas, first the university and its department of astronomy. then the museum for nuclear testing….as must to see, beacause the nevada desert has been such an important place for these activities.

elon musk seems to have endless fantasies

of course ELON MUSK must be on this page as well. not only space x, but many more scientific ideas com from him….electric cars, autonomous driving, solar power, hyperloop tunnels, brain-computer interfaces……

and the tesla s. i bought it in 2018 and i just love it. one could say: you buy a philosophy and you get a car for free.

and elan musk has many more ambitious ideas….flying to iss, the moon…mars https://www.spacex.com/

what an achievement…musk revolutionised space travelling
