nature and science

and then i love art….mostly contemporary….

petra served on the board of mmk (museum of modern art) in frankfurt. altogether 25 years. while i was still heavily involved in business, i watched her more more and more. with growing excitement..and i began joining her: visiting galleries, talking to artists, going to museums and spending time with collectors. this truly was a different world for me.

and we also extended our mutual interest internationally. basis were trips with the mmk (india), the schirn in frankfurt and the pin in munich (europe)….. and then of course the busch reisinger museum in boston, ma (europe, usa and mexixo.

and we started to have contacts with artists on long island, ny. eric fischl, who was well known to us through his krefeld project in 2004 and his unforgettable exhibition thereafter in the mmk. we saw him again after the terrible terrorist attack 9/11/2001 in his northhaven home together with his wife april gornik. eric was primarily known as painter, but he also did sculptures. for example the “tumbling” woman. a wonderful piece of art to remember the attack on the word trade center.

and i love both, eric’s and april’s work. thanks to a charity event in the whaling museum, sag harbor 2015, we now own two little works of them:

something peculiar happened just recently (january 2020). petra visited an art exhibition in the burda museum, baden baden. they showed works from karin kneffel. and one painting was special. it showed a combination of her work and an eric fischl painting from his krefeld project:
